Read on for more and her latest sexy mix: Venus in Fur…
Erica Rhone developed her love for dance music the first time she stepped foot into NYC’s Limelight in early 2000. The way the DJ controlled the room was breath taking to her and she was determined to become apart of that energy.
Her knowledge of music has widely expanded through her world travels. New York’s scene has also greatly inspired her & she’s graced the decks of such esteemed clubs as Pasha, Sullivan Room & Cielo. Nationally she’s rocked the Play Boy Mansion and the dessert for Burning Man. Worldly, Erica hit the dance floors in Asia, Australia, and Jamaica. She’s not stopping there…
Lately, she’s been spending her time in the studio producing beats inspired by Jamie Jones, Kenny Glasgow, Damian Lazarus, and Lee Foss. From unique minimal beats to energy rising tech & Nu-Disco, Erica does not discriminate any categories within these genres. It’s all about moving the crowd physically & emotionally.
DD: How did you get started as a DJ?
ER: I had young parents, so we always had music playing in the car and house. This sounds pretty silly, but as kid, I would make mixed tapes for all of the neighborhood kids. They loved it! My parents noticed this and gave me a mixer at the age of nine.
DD: What styles of music do you mainly play? What other styles of music do you enjoy when you are not spinning?
ER: I mainly play deep house. It’s soulful and techy. – When I’m not playing, I’m usually listening to Radiohead, Kings Of Leon, or hip hop/R&B form the early 90s. Love me some Mary J. & Method Man!!
DD: You have DJed in many venues. Tell us about some of your favorite and sexiest moments as a DJ.
ER: One of the sexiest parties I played for was in NYC. It was a naked body painting party in the LES. I wore nothing but nude colored bottoms. The loft space was covered in plastic wrap with white canvas around the room. Buckets of paint were placed around as well. Strangers would just walk up to you and glide the brush across you skin. Really hot in my opinion!
DD: Have you ever been exposed to the Kink Scene?
ER: Yes, I’ve defiantly been “exposed to the Kink scene”. DJing at Burning Man and Hedonism are prime examples.
DD: From what you know, what do you like most about the Kink Scene? Dislikes?
ER: What I like most is the modern day hippy aspect of it. Free love baby! It’s got a positive energy. What I don’t like about it, is the occasional old man in ass-less chaps, LOL!
DD: Do you feel Kink is getting more mainstream?
ER: Kink will never be mainstream in America. Unfortunately, religion plays a major role in this. NYC is the exception.
DD: If you were a Dominatrix, what would your Mistress name be? Tell us more about that alter-ego as a Mistress.
ER: If I were a dominatrix, my name would be “Erotica”, because it sounds like Erica, haha! I don’t feel like it’s too much of an alter ego. As a DJ I own and control the room. I’ll hold off on that base line till they beg and maybe I’ll give it.
DD: What is your most favorite Kinky outfit that you love to get dressed up in behind closed doors?
ER: I have a leather skintight mini dress, with crazy high heel, and my “Agent Provocateur” rhinestone crop. It defiantly scares my dog, haha!
DD: Tell us what your most ideal kinky encounter would be?
ER: Mile high club!!! I’ll leave it at that so I don’t offend the kids…
DD: Tell us a little about your “vanilla” life? What is an average day like for you? What are your hobbies and interests?
ER: Day-to-Day includes yoga in the morning, a raw vegan meal afterwards, taking my wiener dog on a nice walk (I love being outdoors), working on new beats and listening to others. Music and exercise are must everyday! Hobbies and interest include, horse back ridding, scuba diving, yoga, camping, bike riding, traveling, absorbing new cultures and people, exploring and getting lost.
DD: Anything else you would like to add? Any tips to our readers on how they can get started as a DJ? Any words to our female audience? To our male audience?
ER: For the girls and boys, the best way to start off DJing is to get yourself a pair of used CDJs, mixer, and a monitor. Practice in your bedroom (know as a bedroom DJ). It takes a million mess ups before that first beat match. Don’t give up. Also, surround yourself with fellow DJs. They’re always happy to share their knowledge. I’m sure your buddy will happily come over and lay down some track with you. This is how I learned. Females, less isn’t always better when playing in front of a crowd. Confidence and good energy will get you far!
